How I completed this task-
For this task I chose the first ten minutes of The Amazing Spiderman, and found 7 examples of camera shots, angles and movements. I then explained the camera work that was contributed, the technical decisions that were made, and the aspects of camera work. I explained how these all contribute to the construction of meaning.
1. 0:01-3:11 First 10 Minutes | The Amazing Spider-Man (HD Scene)
2. 0:16 - 0:26 tracking shot, 0:27-0:28 over the shoulder shot, 0:49-0:54 zoom, 1:37 zoom, 2:22-2:24 zoom, 2:25 wide shot, 2:31-2:35 over the shoulder shot
3. The camerawork has contributed to the structure of meaning by giving a sense of adrenaline and anticipation as well as making it exciting to watch. By zooming the camera into various things or around the characters it gives off a nerve-wracking but exhilarating tone. By wide shots, and over the shoulder shots you get a view of all the characters, one character individually, or a character with their peers. Giving us a better idea of their body language. While watching the opening to this movie you wait for what could happen next, because you didn't know what was going to occur next.
4.The technical decisions that were made regarding the composition of shots consists of having a mix of opened and closed frame, there were moments we had an opened range of view, and others had a closed off view. There is also usage of standard focus which promotes dialogue of the characters and gives us in-depth shots. This aids the construction of meaning by giving in-depth and clear shots of not only the characters but the surroundings as well.
5. The aspects of camerawork in the opening of The Amazing Spiderman composes meaning by giving the audience a thought process while watching it. You get a sense of adrenaline, anticipation, excitement, all while waiting for new events, or occurrences. By using shots like the wide shot, over the shoulder shot, and tracking shot you get a better idea of the characters and what they are experiencing. By using the zoom camera movement, you will get a feeling of wonderance. Secondly, the mixture of opened and closed frames gives differentiating camera work, In the rule of the thirds standard focus is used, giving dialogue and thorough shots. Overall, the camera work in the opening to this movie contributes to the idea of meaning by giving dialogue to the characters and their surroundings.
